From June 25 to September 12, the inner courtyard of the Rathaus Köpenick becomes the backdrop for the “Jazz in Town” festival.  More than three hundred performers from fourteen countries will entertain visitors with their musical talents, among them Jon Secada and Curtis Stigers from the US and African-American Berlin resident Jocelyn B. Smith.

Guests at the festival concerts enjoy extensive gastronomic service at their tables, with a wide variety of food and drink provided by the friendly Köpenicker Ratskeller team

Classic Open Air Festival in Berlin

Berlin’s Underground Catwalk

Fashion Week is going underground.  On July 8, the Thursday during Fashion Week, sixteen creative young designers and labels will show the latest works of their “Underground Fashion” in a subway station at Alexanderplatz.

Since 2005 once in a year Berlins “U-Bahn” becomes the meeting point of the innovative fashion scene: young independent-fashion -designers and -labels present fashion shots of their new collections in a running underground train.

Chevrolet is hosting the event with models from the agency Rockstar Models presenting varieties of street style ranging from burlesque and gothic to urban. Musical “Caberet” Back in Berlin

“Cabaret”, the finest tribute to the Berlin of the 1930s, is returning to the stage in Berlin.  For seven weeks beginning on July 15, the Kit Kat girls, party-girl Sally Bowles, and the shady master of ceremonies will reappear at the Tipi by the Federal Chancellery.  The popular musical is known as the “essence of Berlin,” and will be performed again at the end of the year.

New in Berlin: The me Collector’s Room

Berlin’s art landscape has now been enriched by one more collection.  In the “me Collectors Room“, a specially conceived exhibition house in Berlin’s Mitte district, Thomas Olbricht has recently begun presenting one of the most comprehensive private collections in all of Europe with works from the beginning of the sixteenth century through the most recent contemporary period.The building itself — situated in Auguststrasse at the heart of Berlin, provides a permanent domicile for the collection and in consequence, also scope for other international private collections.

Like most of the world, Germans will closely follow the matches of the FiFa WorldCup played from June 11 until July 11 in South Africa. Reminiscent of 2006, Berlin will again offer a large FIFA Fan Fest with public viewing at the Straße des 17. Juni, starting on June 26 though the final match on July 11. Naturally, most bars, beer gardens and restaurants will be showing the matches live on big screens.

Berlin’s approximately 30 beach bars invite locals and visitors to enjoy white sand (imported from the Baltic), and cool drinks while lounging in deck chairs set up at the many locations along the city’s rivers and canals.

Located in a 1928 Bauhaus building in the trendy Mitte district, the Soho House Berlin opened May 10, 2010, as a private members club and 40-room hotel.
